Dartmoor Dental stands as the largest independently owned private dental practice in Tavistock, with a team of 15 highly skilled dental clinicians. Our team look after a database of over 18,000 active patients, reflecting the trust and confidence our community has in us. We offer a comprehensive range of services, including private care and vital NHS services for children and exempt adults.

A Transformative Journey

Nearly two years ago, Mike Hesketh and his wife, Lara, took over the practice when it was generating £800,000 in annual turnover. In just 18 months, we invested over half a million pounds in modernizing our facilities. This investment has allowed us to become digitally led, equipped with state-of-the-art dental operatory chairs, cutting-edge imaging technology, and supporting equipment. Community Engagement and Education

At Dartmoor Dental, we understand the importance of giving back to our community. We established
Tavistock's first and only dedicated NHS Kids Club, offering immediate care for children during school holidays. This initiative eases the process for parents seeking NHS dental care for their little ones.

Additionally, our practice plays a vital role in training the next generation of dental professionals. In collaboration with the Peninsula Dental School in Plymouth, recently voted Britain's leading Dental University in 2023, we provide training and mentorship for young dentists, dental therapists, and nurses. This not only strengthens the region's dental care infrastructure but also attracts more clinicians to Tavistock.

Dartmoor Dental has adopted an "one in, all in" philosophy, where our entire high-quality dental team dedicates part of their day to treating NHS exempt patients. We also offer a low-cost monthly membership option for parents who do not qualify for free NHS dental care but desire the convenience and peace of mind that comes with being registered at the same practice as their children.

  1. What is your experience of moving to Dentally?

Our experience transitioning from our previous software, SFD, to a new system was an important step in modernizing our operations. SFD had become outdated and was no longer meeting our needs. While the transition to the new software had its challenges, it was a necessary process for our practice to stay competitive and efficient.

During the migration, we did encounter a few issues that extended the process to approximately two weeks. Some of our data had to be re-input, which was understandably frustrating. However, we want to commend our dedicated team for their patience and hard work during this transition period.

Despite these challenges, the move to the new software has been a significant upgrade for our practice. The new system has brought us up to date with modern features and capabilities that started making a positive impact on our daily operations immediately.

Change is never easy, and software transitions can be complex, but the benefits of a more up-to-date and functional system are evident. We are confident that the decision to move to the new software was the right one for our practice's long-term success, and rapid growth.

Creating treatment plans and appointments in Dentally is a breeze. The interface is intuitive, which means we can easily map out treatment plans and schedule appointments without unnecessary complexity.

The Perio 6PPC module is another highlight, offering user-friendly functionality that simplifies periodontal charting and monitoring. It's a valuable tool for providing comprehensive care.

What's equally impressive is the ease of managing appointments. Whether it's moving, cancelling, or creating appointments, Dentally provides a smooth and hassle-free experience. This flexibility is a significant advantage, ensuring our practice operates seamlessly.

The online booking system has also improved, offering a smoother experience for both our team and patients. It's a win-win, as it enhances convenience and efficiency in scheduling appointments.
