Charting is getting simpler in Dentally

Written by Amber Jane Spencer | Oct 2, 2026, 6:00:00 AM

Charting sits at the centre of your day. Every patient, every plan, every note runs through it. But we understand that it has often felt like it is working against you rather than with you. Charting in Dentally has grown busier over time; new buttons, new menus, new features all plastered onto one already busy screen. So, we are doing something about it.

That’s where ‘Clinical Charting, Simplified’ comes in.

This is our ongoing initiative to make the charting screen faster and clearer to work in, delivered as a series of small, manageable changes rather than one disruptive overhaul. Each change is a visible step toward the same goal: a charting experience that keeps up with you, not one you have to keep up with.

Why now?

Clinical software tends to accumulate complexity. New features get added, and each one makes sense on its own, but the cumulative effect is a screen with more tabs, more modes and more clicks between you and the thing you came to do. We hear this from clinicians directly: charting should support your judgement, not slow it down.

So, we went back to what clinicians were telling us was getting in the way to ensure we are addressing the things that matter most to you, our users. Nothing here is change for the sake of change. Every update is grounded in real feedback from people who chart every day, and every phase includes a feedback loop, so we can hear from users at every point how to simplify charting in Dentally.

What’s changing, and how you'll experience it
Small planned updates for minimal disruption

Rather than one big release, you will see this land as a running list of updates, each one connected to the same plan. We have put together the below timeline to help you visualise the changes coming to the charting space over the coming months

Or if you prefer to see first hand what these changes might look like, our Senior Product Manager Amy Baxter has put together this preview talking through our plan for charting in Dentally.

Changes roll out gradually

Where it makes sense, we will give you the ability to try a change before it becomes your default, so you aren’t caught off guard by big workflow changes overnight.

A foundation, not a finish line

Simplifying charting is not just about tidying up what is already there. A clearer, calmer charting screen also creates space for smarter tools further down the line, including the intelligent capabilities arriving through Dentally Pulse.

Think of this as chapter one: it is about making the existing everyday clinical workflow clearer and easier, so that whatever comes next has a solid, clean, modern foundation to build on.

What to expect next

We will keep in touch as each phase lands, starting with why it matters and what it means for your day to day, before supporting you through the changes with video and help centre content. Finally, we’ll be back in touch post go live to gather feedback and thoughts.

We will be utilising in-app communications a lot as part of these changes, and we strongly recommend you read any messages you see.

Keep an eye on your messages in-app and on the Help Centre for what is coming next.
