“We're going through a tremendous growth spurt in every way possible. And to have a practice management system that will allow us to expand and grow and to move forward and be as professional as we can is absolutely critical to us. Dentally fulfills that.”

Ted Lederer, Business Manager, Dentaserv Dental Clinic

About the practice

Dentaserv is a close-knit, three-operatory practice, based in Coquitlam, BC. The majority of the team has been there for over a decade. Ted works alongside his wife, Dr. Lorene Lederer, who has practiced in Canada since the late 1990s, after starting her career in the Philippines and Saudi Arabia. Ted handles the business-side largely from a home office, while Dr. Lederer runs the clinical side day-to-day.

Why Dentally

Before Dentally, Dentaserv used Power Practice. Ted's approach to running the business took on new focus after the pandemic. After years of using Power Practice, Ted’s priority was to find an all-in-one practice management solution that could scale and support Dentaserv’s future.

"With Dentally, we were bringing in a program that was going to have longevity, that was going to make the receptionist time easier, and more efficient."

The support that made the difference

For Ted, choosing the right practice management software was only half of the story. What mattered just as much was finding a practice management software that could make the everyday work easier for his team, and help them feel comfortable.

“We're not the most computer-savvy group of people in this office, and it's important for me as a business manager to understand what people's capabilities are. That was my biggest concern — how long it was going to take for people to feel comfortable and to really have a grasp and a good working knowledge of the new program.”

When asked about what he thought made the transition process easier, Ted was grateful to the Henry Schein One support team, emphasizing:  “The support was excellent. The people from Henry Schein One were extremely helpful and made this process possible.”

The impact: better operational efficiency

Since moving to Dentally, Dentaserv felt the efficiency gains were immediately in their day-to-day operations. "It's just so much more efficient," Ted says. "What used to take multiple clicks can now sometimes be done in one or two."

Dr. Lederer agrees that Dentally has helped improve efficiency as well, adding, "To tell you the truth, I am not a computer savvy, but using it now in my office, it's easier for me to input everything "

Before switching, Dentaserv also relied on RecallMax, a third-party software for patient communications and scheduling. Rather than juggling multiple tools, the practice now runs patient communication and scheduling directly through Dentally, leveraging its power as an all-in-one solution.

The Dentally onboarding experience

Ted acknowledges the challenge of change. "Change is hard. Trying to change a corporate culture is maybe one of the hardest things you could possibly do — and when you care about the people within that corporate culture, it's a balancing act."

In Ted’s eyes, the onboarding went “remarkably smoothly,” noting that the team appreciated how intuitive Dentally is to learn and the built-in support resources. Yet, for Dentaserv, it’s the human support that stood out the most: “It's that helpfulness that is so important to a practice who's starting out on a journey that is really quite uncertain. And so I can't speak highly enough of that.”

What’s next for Dentaserv

As Dentaserv looks ahead, growth doesn't mean losing what makes the practice work. Providing excellent care for patients remains the focus: If you want to be [operating at] best practices, it's important to make sure that your clients feel that they're taken care of, not just in the dental chair, but they're taken care of from the moment they book to when they walk through the door. This is all part of making a practice that will thrive in this century.
